We were very pleased to have found a cast of this impressive fish a while ago, and that one sold very quickly - we were very surprised to have the chance to purchase another similar one, no doubt cast from the same original mould. This magnificent specimen has been painted in spawning colours and is perhaps a more recent over-paint.
Overall length is just over 50”, with an estimated girth of 27”. It has a pronounced kyped jaw typical of mature fish. According to my research, its dimensions would place it in the bracket of 56 - 62lb in weight - dangerously close to matching Miss Ballantine’s record fish from the Tay of 64lb. Could it be the famous Deveron fish? The largest fly-caught British salmon ever caught at 61 lb by Clementina Morison. This huge fish is documented to have been sent away for casts of it to be made, and noting that it was 24 hours before it was officially weighed might account for its apparent lack of condition. This fish would have to have been recorded as it is simply huge.
It would make an impressive statement piece for your fishing lodge or as a centre-piece for your home. Cast in glass fibre and hand detailed, it is exactly as sourced, with no alteration or restoration. The worn back boards appear to be painted and over waxed, and could be later replacements.
It can be collected in person, can be delivered by arrangement, or can be posted at your risk, please get in touch to discuss options. 🎣
