I have to say that this is a particularly impressive trap! It’s certainly one of the largest I am aware of and I have seen the best over the years.
What a statement piece! This is a genuine English man trap, originally recovered from a Dorset farmhouse where it has probably been since it was last used. I would date this trap to late 1700s. It is two inches short of seven feet in length, with impressive twenty seven inch round jaws, bristling with forged teeth. It was likely made by an estate blacksmith, but one with some skill.
It would be the talking piece of a collection, equally would be ideal to bring authenticity to a large inglenook or courtyard in an English country house or Scottish castle.
