A rare pocket Game Counter or Norfolk Liar, used for counting numbers of shot game. Graduated with four clicker dials; one each for hares, rabbits, pheasants and partridges. Brass face on one side, nickel silver on the other.
These pocket Game Counters were used to keep tally of shot game, and give bragging rights amongst shooters - and no doubt one or two extra clicks were made hence the nickname ‘Norfolk Liar’!
Made and marketed by G & J W Hawksley, silversmiths of Sheffield, England. Has a rabbit trap chain as the pocket fob attached, came from Holkham Hall gamekeeper.
